Congressman Kweisi Mfume (MD-07) released the following statement applauding President Joseph Biden and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for issuing a moratorium on evictions across most of the country through October 3rd in an effort to curb the increasing spread of the coronavirus, including the rise of the Delta variant.

"I applaud President Biden and the CDC for continuing the fight against the coronavirus and taking proactive steps to avoid an unprecedented wave of evictions. It is the responsible thing to do."

"Now, the U.S. Treasury Department must provide appropriate guidance and directives to states and local governments so that rental assistance funds can be equitably distributed to the most vulnerable renters and landlords across the country."

"The latest action by the CDC seeks to curb infection rates as the highly transmissible Delta variant makes its way through the country. Lives will be saved because of the Administration's actions.
